Duality: from theory to applications

Description:  In 1936, Marshall H. Stone proved the so-called Stone's representation Theorem for Boolean algebras, thus establishing a duality between Boolean algebras and certain topological spaces. Inspired by Stone's result, many dualities between suitable categories of topological spaces and of partially ordered sets were later obtained. In this talk, I will start by informally explaining what a duality is and presenting some details of Priestley duality for bounded distributive lattices. We will then discuss some of its applications.
