On the conjugation action for quantum GL(n)
 
 
Description:  The algebra of polynomial functions on n by n complex matrices that are constant on conjugacy classes is the free polynomial algebra on the functions giving the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial. Here we give a similar description of the algebra of invariants C(G), for the action of the quantum general linear group G over an arbitrary field k with parameter q an arbitrary non-zero element of k. We then describe the algebra of all polynomial functions as a module for C(G) and G, giving q analogues of results of Kostant and Richardson.
