An introduction to combinatorial commutative algebra

Description:  Combinatorial Commutative Algebra comes of age following the works of Richard Stanley in the late seventies of the last century. A typical research problem consists of associating an ideal (or ring) to a given type of structure (simplicial complexes, graphs, polytopes, matroids, etc.) and to use this connection to study combinatorial properties via algebraic ones and vice-versa. We will give a concise introduction to this subject area, from its first developments through a recent research problem.
