Segmenting Medical ImageS Using Level Sets

Description:  Image segmentation is the process by which objects are separated from background information. Structural segmentation from two and three dimensional images is an important first step in the analysis of medical data obtained from MRI pictures. In this informal talk, we will outline efficient level set algorithms that can be utilized for this purpose. Preliminary results will be presented for actual MRI pictures of bone tumors provided by the Institute of Biomedical Research in Light and Images of the University of Coimbra (IBILI). This presentation summarizes work done by our level set reading group, which includes Aderito Araujo, Donna Comissiong and Georg Stadler.
