Level set methods for a 2D chemical problem

Description:  We present a numerical method to simulate the dissolution process of a solid plunged into a corrosive fluid. A level set formulation is presented to describe the free boundary evolution of the dissolution process. Our goal is to compute critical situations like the parting or the merge of moving domains. A technique of virtual acid is introduced to obtain acid concentration in the whole domain and allows a level set formulation on the whole domain. Numerical simulations using the finite element method are given for two dimensional geometries. Two typical situations --splitting off and merge-- are presented.
