On the Saponjyan paradox in the theory of thin plates

Description:  Taking a problem on bending of simply-supported polygonal Kirchoff plate as an example, it is shown that a reformulation of the boundary-value problem in terms of potentials may lead to a complete change in the solution. An approach based on self-adjoint extensions of operators can improve the situation.
