Mathematics in the XXth century -- 100 Years of Hilbert's Problems

Description: |
When David Hilbert proposed his famous list of 23 problems at the
International Congress of Mathematicians in Paris in 1900 he did more than
raise questions. He gave reasons for appreciating the problems and sketched
out several programmes of research. In this talk I shall consider the fate
of some of these topics and examine how the status of the problems, and the
prestige of those who solved them, has been affected by various developments
in mathematics in the last 100 years.
