An introduction to Sasakian geometry

Description:  I will introduce the first elements of contact and almost contact geometry, starting from the notion of contact manifold. I will briefly mention its relation with symplectic geometry as well as some application to physics. Finally, I will present the notions of normality and compatible metric in an almost contact manifold, focusing on Sasakian manifolds which are the most widely studied class of contact Riemannian manifolds. They can be thought of as the odd-dimensional counterpart of Kaehler manifolds.
