How can the Cerebral Aneurysms near-wall region be investigated?
 
 
Description:  Cerebral Aneurysms (CA) represent a frightening and silent threat with a high prevalence and mortality rate. Despite several studies, the mechanisms of aneurysm development are not fully understood. Nonetheless, hemodynamic and biochemical factors, especially related to the vessel wall, are considered important in this pathophysiology. Investigating the evolution of CA to improve the comprehension of their behavior is fundamental.
The near-wall region is where the blow flow interacts with the endothelium cell layer and, therefore, is extremely important to understand the physiological functions at this level. A crucial part of these functions is the mass transport process to/from the blood and the vessel wall. In this talk, we present a Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) methodology to describe the near-wall flow field, in CA patient-specific cases.
We investigate the Wall Shear Stress (WSS) and the WSS divergence, as proportional to the velocity components tangential to the wall or perpendicular to it, respectively, as well the WSS critical points.
