From Krohn-Rhodes theory to Markov chains

Description:  In the early sixties, Krohn-Rhodes theory became a cornerstone of both finite semigroup theory and automata theory. The theory expanded subsequently in different directions, including the infinite setting and applications to the theory of Markov chains.

The results mentioned are joint work with John Rhodes (Univ. of California at Berkeley) and Anne Schilling (Univ. of California at Davis).
