Geometry and Topology of Higgs bundles moduli spaces

Description:  A Higgs bundle over a Riemann surface is a pair consisting of a vector bundle together with some extra data. Their moduli spaces are quasi-projective varieties which naturally appear in many different areas of Mathematics and even of Physics. In this talk, we will take a general overview over two important examples where such moduli play a central role, namely on the study of components of spaces of representations of surface groups in a Lie group and also on the study of Mirror Symmetry.
