Description: |
We compare descriptions of central extensions of associative R-algebras, for a commutative ring R, defined with respect to two reflections: to R-modules (equipped with the zero multiplication) and to commutative R-algebras. In both cases, the results are as expected. However, while the first case is well-understood many years ago, the second one is new, contains some little surprises, and suggests seemingly interesting open questions.
